PDF Editor & Signer

PDF Editor & Signer is a workspace for visual overlays on one PDF: edit detected text blocks, add text, redact rectangles, highlight, shapes, arrows, ink, images, checks, dates, initials, notes, search, page rotation, and zoom. Export creates {base}-edited.pdf.

• You need overlay marks or a drawn signature image on a working copy.
• You accept that the PDF is sent to the configured PDF service for preview, text detection, and export.

The browser posts multipart form data through toolApi helpers: extractPdfTextLayer, renderPdfPageImage, and editPdf. Those map to /api/pdf/text-layer, /api/pdf/page-image, and /api/pdf/edit. Edit text redacts a detected block area and inserts replacement text on export; surrounding layout does not reflow like a word processor.

Input

One PDF. Browser UI limit 50 MB; the Python PDF service may reject larger or unsupported files.

Output

{original-base}-edited.pdf after a confirmed export with at least one operation.

Password

No password field. Encrypted PDFs may fail.

1. Upload one PDF and wait for preview and text detection.
2. Pick a toolbar tool.
3. Place or edit marks on the page.
4. Click Download edited PDF.
5. Review the export summary.
6. Click Confirm and download.
7. Open every changed page in {base}-edited.pdf.

Export applies pending text edits and overlay operations on the server and returns a new PDF. Forms, links, metadata, and certificate signatures are not guaranteed to survive. Redact applies to the selected rectangle during export; it is not a claim of full-document sanitization.

• Export refuses to run with zero changes.
• There is no dedicated cancel once export starts.
• Typed/uploaded signature import is not implemented.
• Scanned pages may have no editable text blocks.

This workflow is server-backed. The PDF and edit payload go to configured endpoints and a Python PDF service. The privacy policy describes in-memory upload buffers rather than saving files to an application database or object store, and notes that infrastructure can still retain data. Do not upload files you are not allowed to send.

• PDF Watermark stamps text or a logo locally with pdf-lib and does not use /api/pdf/edit.
• PDF Protect encrypts locally; it does not draw signatures.
• Most other PDF tools on DevToolKit run entirely in the browser.

• Open every changed page in the downloaded file.
• Recheck forms, links, and any prior digital signatures.
• Treat Redact as a rectangle operation, then verify the export.
