FAQ

Quick answers about privacy, processing, and accounts.

How many PDF tools are available?

The PDF Workspace lists fifteen tools across organize, optimize, edit and mark, convert, secure, and OCR groups. JPG to PDF is also listed in Image Studio because it accepts JPEG inputs.

Which PDF tools run in the browser?

Fourteen tools process PDFs locally in the browser, including merge, split, extract, rotate, compress, watermark, protect, unlock, Word and Excel conversion, image and JPG export, JPG to PDF, and OCR. PDF Edit & Sign is the server-backed exception.

Which PDF tool uses server processing?

PDF Edit & Sign sends the document to the configured PDF service for text detection, page previews, and export. The other fourteen PDF Workspace tools run locally in the browser.

Are PDF files stored on DevToolKit servers?

For in-browser tools, PDF bytes are not uploaded for the core task. PDF Edit & Sign uses a server-backed workflow, so the document is transmitted for that tool’s processing path. Review each tool page before uploading confidential files.

Does PDF Edit & Sign create a cryptographic digital signature?

No. The Sign tool captures a drawn signature image and places it as a visual mark on the page. It is not a certificate-based digital signature, identity verification, or legally compliant e-signature workflow by itself.

Will PDF Compressor always reduce file size?

No. Compression rebuilds pages with lighter image settings or repacks structure. Text-heavy PDFs may see little change, and some outputs can be larger depending on the source and preset.

Can compression remove selectable text?

Yes, on rasterization presets. Maximum and Balanced modes rebuild pages as images, which can remove the existing text layer even when the page still looks readable.
