Continue your workflow

  • Merge PDFCombine extracted pages with other files.
  • Compress PDFReduce size of the extracted PDF.
  • Rotate PDFFix page orientation.

PDF Page Extractor copies chosen pages from one source PDF into one new PDF. Use it when you want a single focused document—such as a chapter, a few invoice pages, or a short submission—rather than multiple files or a ZIP archive.

Enter pages and ranges such as 5, 1-3, or 1-3,5,8-10, or use First page, First 3, Last 3, or All pages presets. Spaces are stripped before parsing. Empty comma tokens are ignored. Valid pages are stored in a set and sorted ascending, so 5,1,3 becomes 1,3,5 and 2,2,2 appears once. Reverse ranges such as 7-3 fail, and numbers beyond the page count fail rather than being clamped. Typed order does not control output order.

Selected pages are copied with pdf-lib into a new document without intentionally rasterizing them into images, so text may remain selectable. Mixed page sizes and page rotation typically travel with the copied pages. Forms, links, annotations, bookmarks, attachments, named destinations, layers, and accessibility structure are not guaranteed after rewrite. Unselected pages are omitted from the new file, but content inside included pages is not redacted.

Extraction stays in the browser. The PDF is not posted to an extraction API. Identified analytics may record sizes, page counts, selected-page count, and status codes, but not the raw PDF, filename, document text, typed range, or page-number list. Ordinary website assets may still load.

One PDF up to 50 MB is accepted. There is no password field; loading uses ignoreEncryption, so encrypted files may fail or behave unexpectedly. There is no thumbnail picker and no ZIP packaging. Output is {base}-extracted.pdf. Document-level metadata and bookmarks are not intentionally rebuilt. Existing certificate signatures can become invalid. Reset clears the workspace and is not a dedicated mid-run cancel control. Large selections can use substantial browser memory.

Common uses for PDF Page Extractor

  • Extract selected invoice or receipt pages into one file for accounting.
  • Create a smaller submission packet from a larger source document.
  • Share only the pages relevant to a colleague without sending the full PDF.
  • Collect non-consecutive form pages such as 1-3,5,8-10 into one PDF.
  • Prepare a focused working copy from a long reference document.

  • Use First page, First 3, Last 3, All pages, or a typed selection such as 1-3,5,8-10.
  • Deduplicate and sort the selection into ascending source-page order before copying.
  • Keep unselected pages out of the new file without creating a ZIP of multiple PDFs.
  • Run page copying locally with pdf-lib without uploading the PDF for extraction.

Privacy and formats

Page extraction runs locally in your browser with pdf-lib. The selected PDF is not uploaded to DevToolKit for extraction. Identified tool analytics may include input bytes, source page count, selected-page count, output bytes, engine, and result or error codes. Identified PDF Extract events do not include the raw PDF bytes, filename, document text, typed range string, or the selected page-number list. Ordinary site assets may still load.

Practical tips before you download or share the output.

PDF Page Extractor accepts one PDF up to 50 MB and always produces one directly downloaded {base}-extracted.pdf. Common problems this tool helps with

Situations where this workflow saves time.

The PDF is larger than 50 MB — upload validation rejects it before extraction.
The PDF will not open — it may be corrupt, empty, or encrypted without a password field here.
The page field is empty — enter pages or pick a preset such as First 3 or All pages.
The range syntax is invalid — use whole numbers and ascending ranges like 1-3,5,8-10.
A page number exceeds the document length — lower the value; out-of-range numbers are not clamped.
Duplicate or overlapping entries produce fewer pages than typed — each page is kept once after sorting.
Output order differs from typed order — for example 5,1,3 becomes pages 1, 3, then 5.
Bookmarks or document navigation are missing — document-level outlines are not intentionally rebuilt in the new PDF.
An existing certificate signature is no longer valid — the output is a newly written PDF.
Automatic download is blocked — use the download control on the result screen for {base}-extracted.pdf.

Frequently asked questions

What does PDF Page Extractor do?

It copies selected pages from one PDF into one new PDF and downloads that file directly.

How is this different from PDF Split?

Extractor always builds one PDF from the selected pages. Split uses modes such as every page, ranges, odd/even, or every N pages and packages outputs in a ZIP.

How many PDFs can I process per run?

One PDF at a time, up to 50 MB. There is no separate hard page-count cap.

How do I select pages?

Type page numbers and ranges, or use First page, First 3, Last 3, or All pages presets that fill the same field.

What page-range syntax is supported?

Examples such as 5, 1-3, and 1-3,5,8-10. Spaces are removed before parsing. Empty comma tokens are ignored.

Can I extract non-consecutive pages?

Yes. A selection such as 1-3,5,8-10 copies those source pages into one PDF in ascending order.

What happens to duplicates and overlapping ranges?

Pages are stored in a set, so overlaps and repeats appear once. Typed order is not preserved.

Does typed order control the output order?

No. Valid pages are sorted ascending. Entering 5,1,3 produces output pages 1, 3, then 5.

How is the new PDF numbered?

Copied pages become a new document starting at page 1 in the sorted selection order.

Are mixed page sizes and rotations kept?

Selected pages are copied as page objects, so mixed dimensions and rotation values typically remain with those pages.

Are pages rasterized into images?

No intentional rasterization. The helper uses pdf-lib copyPages into a new PDF rather than rendering JPG or PNG images.

Does text stay selectable?

Often yes for normal text pages, because pages are copied rather than converted to images. Unusual encodings can still vary by document.

Are forms, links, annotations, bookmarks, and attachments preserved?

Page content is copied, but document-level features such as bookmarks are not intentionally rebuilt, and every interactive feature is not guaranteed. Verify the downloaded file.

Can I extract pages from a password-protected PDF?

There is no password field. Loading uses ignoreEncryption, but encrypted files may still fail or behave unexpectedly. Unlock an authorized copy first.

Is extraction the same as secure redaction?

No. Unselected pages are left out of the new PDF, but content inside included pages is not redacted or sanitized.

What happens to existing digital signatures?

Creating a new PDF can invalidate existing certificate signatures. Re-verify signed documents after extraction if signatures matter.

Does the tool rewrite metadata?

The workflow creates a new PDF and does not intentionally copy or rebuild document metadata fields. Confirm any required metadata in the output if needed.

Is processing local, and is the PDF uploaded?

Processing is local with pdf-lib. The PDF is not uploaded to DevToolKit for extraction. Ordinary site assets may still load.

What is the output filename?

The download is named {base}-extracted.pdf, where {base} is the source filename without .pdf.

Is there a visual thumbnail page picker?

No. Selection is typed ranges plus presets. The source PDF preview is not a clickable thumbnail selector.

Can extraction be cancelled?

There is no dedicated cancel control once extraction starts. Reset clears the workspace afterward.

What analytics does this tool send?

Identified events may include input bytes, source page count, selected-page count, output bytes, engine, and result or error codes. They do not include raw PDF bytes, filename, document text, the typed range string, or the selected page-number list.
